Master of International Trade Finance

The Objective

The multidisciplinary Master of International Trade Finance Degree is aimed at providing practical skills to effectively negotiate trade finance contracts, review and analyse regulatory aspects of trade finance, assess trade finance-related risks, advise clients on appropriate trade finance solutions, prepare trade finance contracts and instruments and further understand the confluence of trade finance and international trade regulatory framework.

This will be achieved by taking the following 12 modules and a master thesis:

  1. Regulatory Framework for International Trade and Regional Integration.
  2. Economics of International Trade and Trade Finance.
  3. International Trade Finance Practice.
  4. Practical Trade Finance Solutions
  5. Contractual Aspects of International Trade Finance
  6. Research Methods
  7. Law and Practice Relating to Trade Finance Instruments
  8. Factoring, Forfaiting and Receivables Financing
  9. International Trade Finance for Trade and Development
  10. Trade Finance and Good Governance
  11. Contemporary Issues in International Trade Finance
  12. Negotiations for Trade Finance Instruments
  13. Thesis in relevant aspects of Trade Finance.

The 12 modules plus the thesis add up to 180 credit units out of which 20 are for the thesis.

For the Master’s degree to be awarded, the programme must be completed within two to five years.

Applicants eligible for admission must:

  • have a relevant bachelor’s degree from a recognised university.
  • at least one year experience in trade finance or related fields
  • have a good command of the English language. Where English was not the medium of instruction language during the applicant’s first degree, there must be evidence of good knowledge of English demonstrated through appropriate passes in internationally recognised English language proficiency qualifications.

To be allocated a supervisor, the student must have completed a total of six courses inclusive of the Research Methods module.

Before applying for a supervisor allocation, the candidates are strongly recommended to consider formulating a suitable thesis proposal and also plan for the thesis.

The student may write the thesis as he/she enrols for the last four modules, to make a total of eleven courses and a thesis to qualify for the Master’s degree in International Trade Finance. 

The requirements for the thesis include;

  • The thesis shall be approximately 15,000 words in length.
  • The grading scale for the thesis is the same as for the taught courses. The thesis proposal as well as the oral defense must meet certain criteria.
  • A student who fails to pass will be allowed to re-write and re-submit the thesis a maximum of two times.
  • A pass after a re-submission of the thesis shall be recorded as an E in the academic transcript.

The Master of International Trade Finance is accredited by the Government of Tanzania’s National Council for Technical Education (NACTE) through ESAMI. Consequently, certification for the Master’s programme is done by ESAMI.

Master of International Trade Policy & Trade Law

The Objective

The Master of International Trade Policy and Trade Law Degree is achieved by taking 10 Advanced courses and a masters thesis.

In total, the Master’s programme consists of 180 credits of which 80 are taken in the form of coursework and a thesis amounting to 20 credits.

For the Master’s degree to be awarded, the programme must be completed within five years.

Applicants eligible for admission must:

  • Hold a first degree in Economics, Law, Social Sciences or any other relevant field from a recognised university or academic institution;
  • Show high motivation to pursue a career in international trade albeit subject to requisite consideration or have work experience from a trade or development-related area in government, the wider public sector, private sector or non-governmental/civil society organization;
  • Have a good command of the English language. Where English was not the medium of instruction language during the applicant’s first degree, there must be evidence of good knowledge of English demonstrated through appropriate passes in internationally recognised English language proficiency qualifications.
  • Have either completed the ESAMI-trapca e-learning pre-requisite course or a relevant equivalent from other institutions. Applicants with proven experience in Trade will be exempted from the pre-requisite course but are encouraged to through the elarning pre-requisitew course.

The Objective

MBA in Transport Economics & Logistics Management (MBA-TELM)

The Objective

The MBA-TELM Programme is conducted in the evenings and is specifically designed for managers and executives who potentially will have full time job responsibilities and cannot afford to attend an advanced management education on full time basis.

Transport and Infrastructure have been identified as important prerequisites to enhancing social and economic development.

The Objective

The evening Master of Project Management (MPM) is specifically designed for managers and executives who potentially will have full time job responsibilities and cannot afford to attend an advanced management education on full time basis.

This course aims to meet the growing needs of African public and private sector enterprises in the area of project management. Investors and managers are becoming more concerned with the use of scarce and often difficult to mobilise financial resources.

The MBA programme is designed to accommodate a mix of professionals with various backgrounds, who manage business entities like various companies, factories and hospitals just to mention a few; as well as public servants, armed forces, members of parliament, government public ministers and entrepreneurs etc.

Classes run in the evenings from 5.00pm to 10.00pm for two-three weeks in every two to two and a half months, for a period of 2 years.

The Business School also conducts Global classes that attract students from across Africa and are delivered virtually.

The evening school Masters Programme is offered in various countries.

The Candidate must submit a completed application form together with the following:

  • Current curriculum Vitae
  • Certified copy of official academic documents including official academic transcript, degree certificate and other key relevant documentation
  • Copies of O’ and A’ level certificates
  • At least one letter of recommendation from a person who is in a position to judge the candidate’s ability
  • Passport-size photo
  • A non-refundable processing fee of US $ 30

  • Bachelors degree from a recognized university or equivalent qualification.
  • International recognized full professional qualification.
