Public Policy Analysis, Formulation and Management

Statement of Need

It is true that many countries do not develop as fast they could because of three primary factors; namely, limited resources, poor governance and non-conducive policy environment. There is ample evidence to show that even with significant amount of resources, a number of countries have tended to stagnate when their policies are wrong or misdirected. Governance and policy environment are closely linked. Capacity to formulate good policies is thought to be lacking in several of the development countries. This course on ‘policy analysis, formulation and management is intended to contribute to strengthening this capacity

Who Attends

Senior government officials in core ministries; planning officers in line ministries; senior local government officials; representatives of development agencies and NGOs.

How participants will benefit

At the end of the course participants will be able to:
• Acquire skills in policy analysis and identify critical policy relevant information;
• Carry out meaningful policy argumentation and debate;
• Draft policy issue papers and cabinet memorandum for policy decision makers.
