Migration Governance
Migration Governance training provides an overview of the principles, policies, and practices related to effectively managing migration at the national and international levels. Migration governance involves developing and implementing policies and frameworks that facilitate safe, orderly, and regular migration while protecting the rights and well-being of migrants.
This training aims to equip government officials, policymakers, and professionals involved in migration management with the necessary knowledge and skills to navigate the complexities of migration governance. It covers a range of topics related to migration, including labor migration, forced displacement, human trafficking, and refugee protection.
At the end of the programme, participants will be able to:
* Enhance participants’ understanding of the concept of migration governance, its historical and contemporary context and the current state of international migration governance.
*Equip participants with knowledge and skills to analyze and apply international legal frameworks and standards relating to migration governance such as the UN Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM), International Labour Organization (ILO) Conventions, Refugees 1951 Convention, among others.
* Develop participants’ skills and knowledge of the complex linkages
between labor migration and recruitment and the critical role of private and public sectors in managing labor migration.
* Foster an understanding of the human rights dimensions of international migration and the protection available under international law.
* Enhance participants’ capacity to promote and support civil society and local authorities’ involvement in migration governance, including monitoring, advocacy, and public engagement.
* Provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the relationship between migration and development and the contribution of migration to the economic and social development of countries of origin, transit, and destination.
* Develop participants’ skills to promote and support integration and social inclusion of migrants in host communities to ensure their welfare.
