Managing E-Records
Developments in Information and Communication Technology have revolutionized the way people communicate. Individuals and
organizations do not have to depend on paper-based media for communication. Teleconferencing, telecommuting, etc, have made
meetings easier. However, these developments require that the media being used be managed properly. Magnetic tapes, flash disks, optical disks, and the like have to be stored in appropriate environments to avoid corruption of data. This is especially important given that some of the new devices have not been tested for long enough.
Records managers, librarians, and documentalists; the right participant will be expected to have undertaken a basic program on managing records.
At the end of the programme, participants will be able to:
- Establish and manage electronic records better;
- Appreciate the benefits of computerizing the records management system;
- Apply the principles of records management in managing electronic records;
- Explain the various formats for storage of e-information.
