
Disaster Preparedness and Relief Management
Disaster is sudden adverse or unfortunate extreme event which causes great damage to human beings as well as plants and animals. Disasters occurs rapidly, instantaneously and indiscriminately. Disaster management is the creation of plans through which communities reduce vulnerability to hazards and cope with disasters. Disaster management does not avert or eliminate the threat, instead it focuses on creating plan to decrease impact of disasters. These extreme events are either natural or man-made- induced exceed the tolerable magnitude within or beyond certain time limits, make adjustment difficult, result in catastrophic losses of property and income and life is paralyzed. The programme aims at enhancing the ability of organizations to analyze, prepare and effectively respond to disaster.
Officers dealing in managing and preparing for disasters in governments and NGOs. This includes planning officers, disaster focal points and donor communities.
