Simon Mbugua

Simon Mbugua is a dynamic, results-oriented human resources and organizational development consultant with more than 20 years of experience, having practiced HR up to the Director level. Based in Nairobi, he offers consulting across the full employment life cycle, corporate governance, institutional capacity building, and organizational development. He brings global experience and a strong understanding of human diversity and cultural differences across geographies.

His areas of expertise include organizational capacity assessments and HR audits; organizational development; HR strategy development; executive search and headhunting; workplace investigations; performance management; training and facilitation; compensation and benefits; and employee engagement and career coaching. From 2020 to 2024, working with USAID’s ASAP project, he conducted organizational capacity assessments and provided HR support to more than 15 local NGOs across eight African countries, using tools such as OCA and NUPAS+. He has also conducted sensitive workplace investigations — covering fraud, procurement compliance, harassment, and misconduct — in Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Tanzania, Botswana, and Zambia.

He has worked as an independent HR and OD consultant since 2018, developing practical solutions that help clients achieve operational excellence. He also provides outsourced HR services to SMEs and NGOs. He holds an MBA in Strategic Management and a BA from the University of Nairobi and is a Certified Public Secretary (CPS-K), an SPHRi, and an ICF-certified coach. He is a member of the Institute of Human Resource Management (Kenya) and the Institute of Directors.
