1.0 THE DBA PROGRAM IN BRIEF
The doctoral program can be regarded as the most challenging, but also the most rewarding level in higher education. It is worth noting that the Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) programme focuses on applied research regarding any management issues, while PhD studies aim at generalized knowledge. However, the standards, pathway and research rigor followed are basically the same. The focus of the doctoral candidates is mainly dependent on their objectives and career interests.
2.0 PROGRAMME STRUCTURE
The four-year Swiss School of Management (SSM) awarded DBA degree programme is made up of mainly three parts.
Part I - Research skills development modules which are done in the first year of the programme.
Part II - Research Proposal Development.
Part III - Data collection, Data analysis, Thesis writing and Defense
Research skills development part is done in form of workshops organized during the first year and students are supported in proposal development. This is done in form of class presentations and feedback and in one-on-one discussions with respective professors and programme coordinators. The main objective is to introduce students to research methods which is a critical component of scientific research at doctoral level. Doctoral students are required to appreciate the use of theoretical as well as analytical methods for application in their independent doctoral research.
DURATION
The duration for the DBA programme is four years. Extension may be considered dependent of the candidate’s academic progression.
4.0 FEES STRUCTURE
The fee for the four-year DBA programme will be US$20,000. Fees can be paid in installments of US$5,000 per year for 4 years by arrangement.
5.0 REQUIREMENTS AND APPLICATION PROCEDURE
Applicants must hold a minimum of a Masters’ degree or equivalent qualification from a recognized university with at least 3 years work experience at managerial level. Candidates must submit applications with the following attachments:
Duly completed application form
Certified copies of academic certificates & transcripts
Current curriculum vitae and letter/s of recommendation
A non – refundable processing fee of $30
2 passport size photographs
Preliminary research proposal
List of publications
Note: All workshops conducted during the first year of study are held at ESAMI headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania.
