Project monitoring and evaluation is one of the greatest challenges in project management. The essence of establishing an effective monitoring and evaluation system, developing and executing M&E plans cannot be understated. Using feedback from M&E for learning, improving decision making and better targeting of ongoing interventions to realize impact is a requirement for organizations that want to remain relevant. Key challenges are faced in the design of M&E systems and frameworks, establishing clear project performance and implementation indicators, carrying out the M&E and preparing the M&E reports on timely basis. There have also been challenges on how best to utilize the M&E results to improve the overall project implementation and enrich decision making processes.
