COURSE OVERVIEW
Road crashes (accidents) exert a heavy toll on a country’s socio economic development prospects. At worst, road crashes rob the country of its most productive population due to deaths or incapacity- temporary and permanent. The huge financial costs incurred in terms of loss of output, medicines and medical equipment, treatment, policing and administration amount to about 2- 3% of a country’s gross domestic product. These figures do not include the “warm bloodied” costs of pain, suffering, grief and despair of surviving dependants. Ensuring road safety is therefore an issue each government should prioritize.
