COURSE OVERVIEW Oil and gas extraction have the potential to generate significant revenues, which governments can channel into public service delivery and economic development. However, the institutional frameworks to govern the performance of the sector have remained weak. Absence of transparency, accountability, and effective management of these important natural resources have led to the ‘resource curse’ mantra, with many resource rich countries having recurrent conflicts. This course sheds light on the institutional structure, governance, revenue management and the impact of various modes of petroleum resource management and governance.
