Course Title: Economic Analysis and Revenue Forecasting for Medium to Large Scale Mining, Oil and Gas Projects III

The course aims to expose participants to the many processes involved in the exploration and evaluation of prospective mining and oil & gas projects. After evaluating the project to gain an understanding of the potential development and operating costs, the potential revenues and risks, participants will gain insight into financial, tax and regulatory requirements. The participants will be able to advise their organizations and government more effectively on key financial, economic, social, environmental and political aspects associated with mining and oil & gas projects.

Participants will gain insight into the drafting of production sharing contracts or agreements, and tax and royalty concession spreadsheets. The perspectives of Government towards the mining and oil & gas companies with particular reference to oil & gas activities in downstream, midstream, and upstream gas subsectors will be discussed. The differences between the fiscal and contract practices in the mining and oil & gas production in the various states and countries will affect investment opportunities.

The programme will also provide participants with technical and commercial tools to become familiar with the techniques and methods used in valuing mining, oil and gas prospects and discoveries. The participants will gain expertise in the comprehensive evaluation of upstream economics and risk assessment including appraisal for exploration, development and production activities.


Objectives:

At the end of the Program, Participants will be able to:-

  • Advise their organizations and government more effectively on key financial, economic, social, environmental and political aspects associated with mining, oil and gas projects.
  • Identify differences between mining and petroleum production fiscal and contract terms;
  • Develop production sharing agreements, tax and royalty concession spreadsheets;
  • Demonstrate sharing of risks and rewards between government and investing company from different perspectives in oil and gas sector
  • understand the oil and gas activities in downstream, midstream, and upstream oil and gas subsectors
  • Evaluating investment opportunities, maximizing revenue for the state/country.
