The course will give comprehensive overview of the oil and gas exploration and production industry from a historical, current and future perspective for both non-technical and technical participants. The principles of exploration, development and production will be covered and complemented by what is happening in the industry and what the future holds. The full lifecycle of exploration, development, production to product delivery will be covered. Industry key players (national oil companies, international oil companies, multinational companies and service providers) together with major trends in the industry will be discussed.

To provide the necessary framework for the regulatory framework, the principles and practices of mineral exploration, development, operation, and mining methods will be explained. Most importantly, the key concepts, applications and terminology associated with acquisition, processing and interpretation of exploration and production data, lean technical processes involved in exploration and production will be examined.

Participants will be introduced to the technical terminology, tools and methods used in the upstream, midstream and downstream activities associated with acquisition, processing and interpretation of exploration, production and seismic data. This includes an introduction to lean technical processes in exploration and production, and an overview drilling activities from pre-drilling preparation, through to well, well evaluation and post drilling activities. The common production methods and related stages of processing, understand the nature, practicalities, challenges and realities of the oil and gas sector are reviewed.


Objectives:

At the end of the Programme, participants will be able to:-

  • Understand principles and practices of oil and gas project cycle
  • Understand some technical terminology, basic tools and methods used in upstream, midstream and upstream phases
  • understand key concepts, applications and terminology associated with acquisition, processing and interpretation of exploration, production and seismic data
  • Learn technical processes involved in exploration and production
  • Gain a comprehensive overview drilling activities from pre-drilling preparation, through to the well, well evaluation and post drilling activities
  • Get familiarized with common production methods and related stages of processing
  • Understand the nature, practicalities, challenges and realities of the oil and gas sector and its complexities
  • Advise others including their stakeholders, parliaments, electorates and their governments on risks and opportunities associated with the on shore oil and gas exploration and production projects.
